Thejiayue Bridge not only is a cornerstone in a massive effort by the municipality of Chongqing, China,to attract investment and boostindustrial employment. It is also amultimodal crossing in perfect harmonywith its natural surroundings.HE NEW JIAYUE BRIDGE, which crosses the Jialing River in China near the township of Yuelai, part of the municipality of Chongqing, is a signature structure carrying six lanes of traffic on its upper deck and two paths for pedestrians and bicyclists directly beneath the roadway on either side of the 28 m wide deck. Part of the city's ring road network, the bridge has a main span of 250 m located roughly 90 m above the normal water level and represents the latest urban development within Chongqing's northern region. It not only ensuressmooth, safe passage for all travelers but also complements the surrounding landscape without detracting from the natural beauty of the area.
