FACULTY POSITION in geotechnical engineering— The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in geotechnical engineering. Full consideration will be given to applications received by September 30,2011; the final closing date is October 31,2011. The preferred hiring date is January 2012; however, a later start date is possible. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in civil engineering or a related field of study and must have a strong research background in geotechnical earthquake engineering. The candidate is also required to have expertise in 1 or more of the following areas: experimental characterization of geomaterials, large-scale laboratory model or field testing, geotechnical aspects of renewable energy development, numerical modeling of geomaterials, and risk analysis in geotechnical design. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform experiments in the world class NEES Earthquake Engineering Laboratory, which is currently undergoing an $18 million expansion. In accordance with the university's mission as a land grant institution, the selected candidates will be expected to develop a robust externally funded research program, to supervise M.S. and Ph.D. students, to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and to perform university and professional service. It is desirable that the candidate demonstrate an ability and interest in becoming registered, or is already registered, as a professional engineer.
