Quality Culture of Japanese Construction Industry

摘要

From 1985 to 1990 I studied in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Tokyo leading to D.Eng degree. During this period I got opportunities to visit construction sites and research centres of the leading construction companies in Japan. I also learnt a great deal about Civil Engineering, especially in concrete technology, under Prof. H. Okamura and Prof. K. Maekawa. The exposure I received during that 5 year period moulded me as a researcher. Even to this day, as an academic in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, I use the fundamentals that I learnt during that time.%私は，1985年から1990年に東京大学土木工学専攻に在籍し，修士号及び博士号を取得した。在学期間中に，岡村甫先生や前川宏一先生のご指導の下で，特に，コンクリート技術について多くのことを学ぶことができ，また，日本の建設現場や建設会社の技術研究所を訪問する機会を得た。本稿では，私が理解する範囲で，日本の建設産業における品質文化に関係する主要因について述べてみたい。
