Permission to fly

UNMANNED aerial system (UAS) technology in the UK is still in its infancy, as data collection remains mainly by traditional surveying methods. Landfill companies have -and always will have - a great understanding of the safety of the people that work in their business. This is what prompted me, with my background in this area, to take a closer look at UAS. UAS are often seen in the media as interfering with equipment, being too near airports and creating issues within certain environments. You only have to look at the recent news from Gat-wick Airport to see how so many people can be affected when they are flown incorrectly, whether by accident or intentionally. UAS are far too easy to purchase and in the wrong hands their use can be catastrophic. I, however, want to encourage and show the full potential they have. The issues of cost and safety are a good place to start.
