Coronary heart disease(CHD)prevails as one of the leading causes of deaths in the developed nations. In Asia, growing affluence coupled with the rapid changes in lifestyles have paralleled the increase in incidence of CHD mortality (reference 1 and references therein). While epidemiological studies indicate that there is a widespread distribution of serum cholesterol levels within the region, they to however corroborate the widely accepted relationship between cholesterol concentrations and CHD-related deaths.
