Evonik Industries has agreed with industrial gases firm Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corp. (TNSC; Tokyo) on a 125-million ($170 million) project to build an integrated complex that will produce monosilane and fumed silica at Yokkaichi, Japan. Construction is expected to start In late 2009, and start up is scheduled for 2011. Silicon tetrachloride obtained as a by-product of monosilane production at Yokkaichi will be processed into Evonik's Aerosil range of fumed sillcas, which will be marketed separately for applications such as plastics, colorants, lacquers, and sealants.
