Terminal alkynyl and azide groups are introduced on the surface of molecularly imprinted core-shell nanoparticles using precipitation polymerization. These clickable groups enable simple nanoparticle conjugation and surface modification under mild reaction conditions, opening new opportunities for nanoparticle-based assays and chemical sensing. Nanoparticles have drawn great interests in recent years, because they are very suitable starting materials to develop drug delivery systems, diagnostic tools and new micro analytical techniques. Although research in this direction has been mainly focused on inorganic nanoparticles (gold colloids, magnetic nanoparticles, quantum dots), molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) nanoparticles hold enormous potential
