摘要

We don't hear much about 'weekenders' these days - folk who explore the system by cruising Saturdays and Sundays, leaving their boats where they can. In the past it used to be a simple enough business. You'd pull up at places like the bottom of Foxton, or outside the Malt Shovel in Shardlow. Places you knew you'd be safe. Nowadays stopping in these sort of 'honeypot' locations is unthinkable. At best they're limited to 24 hours, sometimes you can't stay longer than four. So where can weekenders leave their boats? Further out, moorings are likely to be limited to 48 hours, or a week; and if you're lucky enough to find 14-day moorings, as like as not they'll be occupied by some couple living the dream, or crusty old hippies who've been squatting since the Beatles released Sergeant Pepper.
