I have just had a split-charge system fittedrnplus new batteries. The engineer fitted a new automotive alternator and connected it via a belt to the pulley of my JP3. The engine was originally equipped with a dynamo.rnI expected the alternator to be able to charge the starter and leisure batteries at relatively low revs, like most boats, but the engineer says I need a bigger pulley on the engine to 'start' the charging because the alternator revs are too low.
