Autumnal signs

A trumpet-like honking, picked up by surrounding geese, and the flock of canadas take to the wing in an impressive v formation - a sure sign that autumn is approaching. Canada geese are heavily built -grey-brown with a pale breast, dark legs and a long black neck. The black head, with its large black bill, is relieved by a characteristic white band under the chin. In their native north america, this handsome goose exhibits the greatest variation in size of any bird and was the largest breed that was introduced to britain.
