A university professor and a business leader have been appointed to head up two trial bodies, as a-first step towards establishing local management for the waterways under the conversion of British Waterways to a charity in 2012. Peter Mathews, Managing Director of Black Country Metals, chairs the regeneration body the Black Country Consortium, and has headed organisations including the World Recycling Conference and Midlands World Trade Forum. He becomes chair of the West Midlands Trial Local Waterways Partnership, whose area includes the BCN, northern Grand Union, Staffs & Worcs and Stratford Canal.
