Middle ground

If you'd walked along a footpath parallel to the A610 road just east of Ambergate in Derbyshire in early August, near the two settlements of Bullbridge and Sawmills, you'd have met a bunch of people (including the author of this article) in red t-shirts, hard-hats and yellow high-vis vests saying 'waterway recovery group'. Noting that we were hard at work re-surfacing the path and rebuilding a stone wall in the adjacent ditch (and being a Canal Boat reader), you'd have realised that you were on the long-abandoned Cromford Canal, and that we were volunteers on a WRG Canal Camp, working to restore it.
