A recent questioner said to us: "I don't know which direction this propeller should turn and everyone tells me opposite things." It seems the boat had been fitted with a new engine and propeller but had gone backwards when the morse control was in ahead and visa versa. This could have been be a wrong-handed prop or incorrectly installed control and/or cable. In this case it turned out to be the wrong propeller. So how do you know which propeller you need for your boat? On most gearboxes you push the lever on the box forwards to engage ahead gear. If the shaft rotates clockwise when looking from astern you need a right-handed propeller. If it goes anti-clockwise from astern then it's a left-handed one.
