Go-ahead for new Chesterfield terminus

Plans to create a terminus for a restored Chesterfield Canal as part of a major urban regeneration scheme for Chesterfield have taken a step forward with planning approval of the £75m first stage of the scheme. With the original basin filled in, the restored five-mile length from Staveley to Chesterfield ends with a short length of the River Rother in a formerly industrial area. Plans to create a new terminus led to excavation of a basin several years ago, but the entrance lock is yet to be built, and there has been little progress on the surrounding regeneration.
