The C&R Battery site was the location of an automobile battery reclamation operation from 1970 until 1985. Inorganic materials quantified in on-site surface soils included lead (67,700 ppm), cadmium (99 ppm), and arsenic (103 ppm). Lead was also measured in groundwater (2.2 ppm) on-site, and surface water (0.5 ppm) off-site. The site is considered to be of potential public health concern because of the risk to human health caused by the possibility of exposure to hazardous substances via groundwater.
