IN ADDITION to the dredging contract, the Canal & River Trust has signed a new seven-year contract for almost 1,000 pieces of mechanical and electrical engineering across the waterways network. The contract has been awarded to AMCO, replacing separate current contracts for mechanical and electrical maintenance, water and automation, and covering maintenance, renewal, replacement and upgrades. CRT said that a single contract would mean "major advantages in terms of improved efficiency and customer service". The individual items covered range from individual opening bridges and mechanised locks up to large structures including the Anderton Boat Lift and Tees Barrage.
