BCN Part Ⅰ: The South

Like many other people we were only interested in doing cruising rings in our boat-hiring days, so it was not for many years that serious attention was given to the Birmingham Canal Navigations. Following the purchase of our own boat we dedded to make a serious attempt on the BCN - and looked at possible awards for cruising the system. There was the popular BCN 24-Hour Challenge, and the much less well-known IWA Silver and Bronze Challenge awards. We investigated the latter, as ft was much more up our street The award is to a person, not a specific boat and can be attempted over a 12-month period. A Silver Award is for cruising the whole BCN and a Bronze Award for covering a large percentage of it.
