The Waterways Trust's campaign to persuade the Government to provide financial backing to the three national waterways museums continues to gather momentum, with more organisations giving their support. However at a House of Lords debate in November the Government did not offer any hope of such funding being made available. Well-known actor and waterways supporter David Suchet visited the National Waterways Museum in Gloucester to give his backing to the campaign. While he was there, he was shown the 1926-built No 4 Steam Dredger in operation: this is one of the largest of the floating exhibits in the national collection, and although mechanically operational and regularly steamed, it needs work to bring it back to fully restored condition - as do many other craft in the collection.
