Philips intros new HD & SD chip for DTV receivers

Anticipating new applications which may emerge over the next few years as digital signal technologies are deployed, Philips Semiconductors has announced a chip (SAA7108A/09A HD-- CODEC) which can decode both high-definition and standard-definition signals. The new chip, which is the first of its kind, will be targeted for use in computers and entertainment devices (settop boxes, DVDs, DVRs, etc.).
