Manitoba and Ontario join in

The year started on a high note for Manitoba's accountants. Eighty-three percent of participating members of the Certified General Accountants Association of Manitoba (CGA Manitoba) voted for unification. On Jan. 29, CGA Manitoba held a special general meeting to ratify an agreement to proceed with merging the provincial bodies of the CAs, CMAs and CGAs. The three bodies will begin executing the agreement and building the CPA designation in Manitoba after legislation has passed. "We're delighted with this important development," says Ron Stoesz, FCMA, CEO of CMA Manitoba. "We have a lot of work to do with integration, and we're optimistic that legislation will be passed in 2014."
