At a Little Caesars in Salt Lake City, a 20-year-old with a headset barks out commands-"Two pep!" "Four meat!" He's reading from a worksheet employees receive each morning that breaks their day down into 30-minute chunks. They're told to have 10 pepperoni, 4 cheese, 2 Hawaiian, and 3 Meat Treat pizzas ready from 11:30 a.m. to noon, along with an order of Buffalo wings and 22 sticks of Crazy Bread. During the 6 p.m. to 6:30 evening rush, they need 67 pepperoni, 39 cheese, 6 Hawaiian, and 8 Meat Treat pizzas along with 3 orders of wings and 77 sticks of Crazy Bread. The goal is to have the pizzas ready so that customers never wait. People still call and place orders, but it doesn't really matter, says the worker with the headset, because they're already making the pizza anyway.
