Sitting in his Times Square office, Robert Wolf, the former head of UBS Americas, explains why he loves drones. He says they can change the world. They can help companies spray pesticides, inspect miles of oil pipeline, and keep watch over mines. "This is the most exciting thing I've ever done," says Wolf, now chairman of Measure, a year-old advisory firm that promises to take care of everything involved in getting drones aloft, including choosing the right model for a particular task, arranging leases, and securing regulatory approval. "Just to be clear, this is going to change the landscape," Wolf says. Commercial flights of unmanned aircraft are generally banned in the U.S. The Federal Aviation Administration has granted 244 exemptions to companies such as Amazon.com, Dow Chemical, and Union Pacific. In February the agency proposed the first rules for drone flights. Companies need help navigating the system-and that's where Wolf and the rest of the Measure team come in.
