In some ways, Victoria―the capital of the Canadian province of British Columbia―is more British than Britain. It may be on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, but it's rather like a 1950s English timewarp, with elegant hotels and gardens and a collection of old English sightseeing buses. These days, they are mainly Leyland Atlanteans, Daimler Fleetlines and Bristol VRs and they include some of the left-hand-drive Park Royal-bodied Atlanteans built for New York in the 1970s. You will quite likely also encounter some Bristol Lodekka FLFs and AEC Routemasters, publicised as 'the best buses Britain ever built'. But the big change over the past couple of years has been an influx of brand new British buses for ordinary local bus services―20 Dennis Trident double-deckers and 35 Dennis Darts.
