Berlin and London

The Continent, As Andrew Braddock sometimes reminds us in his Inside Track column, is another place. They do things differently there. But a trip to Berlin, the German capital city I have visited several times since 1992, showed that there are perhaps now more similarities to London than differences.For a start, every bus (and tram) stop has a stop-specific list of departures. Many also have shelters, which contain maps of the local routes. London does better at showing where to find local ticket sales outlets, but Berlin displays comprehensive fares information. You can buy a ticket from a bus driver, or from a machine on a tram or on the street; on buses, all tickets must be shown to the driver.
