Class act has two decks and half a cab

As our Halfcabs Etcetera feature on p47 proves once again, many and various are the uses to which buses are put after they are retired from passenger carrying. But Neil Bricklebank thinks he has discovered a new first in Sheffield University's employment of a preserved Sheffield double-decker bus as a lecture theatre. This, he tells me, was not some vain attempt by the university to overcome a shortage of teaching accommodation but part of its outreach activities, designed to bring the work of the university's researchers to the attention of the general public. As one or two of you also spotted, advertisements for the event, which took place over the weekend of 25-27 September, featured a pop-art style representation of preserved Sheffield Transport 874 (7874 WJ), a 1960 AEC Regent V with 69-seat rear-entrance Alexander body.
