The geothermal industry is challenged in both price and competition in today's renewable energy marketplace by solar and wind. Also more competition is created by continuing low fossil fuel prices. However, geothermal is still in demand and has unique attributes in this competitive market. If all of its attributes are properly valued, geothermal is one of the lowest priced renewables. A geothermal project has a very small footprint compared to other renewable energy developments and thus minimal environmental impact. Geothermal greenhouse gas emissions are minimal - a fact that should be considered in current and proposed clean-air legislation in California and other states.
