The Influence of Selected Bee Honey Types on Improving Certain Biochemical Parameters in Carcinogen-Treated Rats.

The objective of this study is to test the prophylactic of selected types of bee honey namely Medicago sativa, Ziziphus spina christi and Nigella sativa in reducing the hazards resulting from cancer disease. In addition, the role of a selected mixture of the three types of bee honey either alone or in combination with the anticancer endoxan drug to offset the disturbance that occured in heart and kidney of carcinogenic rats (post-induction of disease) was elucidated. Results indicate that administration of the different types of honey to the normal healthy animal individually or in a mixture shows non-significant changes in all parameters under investigation either in heart or kidney tissues except DNA and RNA contents in healthy heart rats which recorded significant increase as compared to healthy non treated rats. Also, Treatment of normal healthy rats with anticancer endoxan drug showed non significant changes either in heart or in kidney parameters. On the other hand, combined treatment of anticancer endoxan drug with the selected mixture of bee honey showed significant increase only in normal heart DNA. Prophylactic treatment (pre-induction of disease) with the different types of bee honey caused non-significant changes in all the measured parameters studied either in heart or kidney of carcinogenic rats. While, treatment of carcinogenic rats (Post-induction of disease) with anticancer endoxan drug-conjoined with selected mixture of the three honey showed the most effective means to overcome the disturbances in the heart lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), thymidine kinase (TK), deoxyribonuclease (DNase) and Ribonuclease (RNase) enzyme activities; DNA, RNA and total protein contents, also, in the kidney TK, DNase enzyme activities; DNA, RNA and total protein content were better than in case of anticancer endoxan drug alone or selected mixture of the three types of bee honey alone.
