European demand hits new highs

With demand for coal remaining strong among European buyers, producers are not envisaging any weakening in prices in the immediate future. In the Pacific, prices have also been rising quickly over recent weeks as problems with Chinese supply have caused Korean and Philippine utilities to enter into the market for prompt cargoes. This could slow the pace of exports from Indonesia and Australia into Europe that had been gathering momentum on the back of rising CIF ARA prices.
