ADM wants bigger role in Brazil

Archer Daniels Midland Co (ADM) is keen to expand its role in Brazil by exercising greater control over its supply chain and by offering its customers improved levels of service. Earlier this year, its joint-venture North America agency company, Agri Port Services, purchased Blue Ocean Agencia Maritima Ltda, a large ship and port agency group with offices throughout Brazil, including in the important southern grain exporting ports of Santos and Paranagua. Most of ADM's grain and soya bean exports are shipped through terminals in these ports. Blue Ocean, in which ADM had a shareholding interest prior to this transaction, offers a full range of general and port agency services to both inbound and outbound vessels. Its acquisition supports ADM's strategy of adding value to its core agri-bulk trading activities.
