Despite the slowdown in the expansion of Brazil's sugar cane crop, generation of energy from burning bagasse as a biomass feedstock is expected to continue its recent growth. The government of Sao Paulo state, which accounts for roughly 60pc of Brazil's sugar cane output, and power distribution company CPFL announced last week that they would form a task force aimed at stimulating the use of idle biomass generation capacity at the state's cane milling operations.
