In its finance capital flashiness, AHMM's Westminster Academy neatly embodies the academies' managerial ideology of "aiming high" - their apparent attempt to solve the problems of the nation's youth by setting up mini-business schools on the ashes of the social democratic comprehensives. Sadly, the academies programme appears not to be facing the same ignominious fate as AHMM's school, which failed to secure a single vote from the Stirling Prize judges, despite being the bookies' favourite.rnThis is what differentiates this government's economic and social ideas from the social democratic, Keynesian models it has recently taken to invoking. Alistair Darling recently pledged (perhaps to the relief of a good few architecture firms) that the government would spend its way out of recession, and one of the public works this would involve is the Building Schools for the Future programme. This means a lot more academies -200 of them by 2010.
