Forty years ago, a large red model of Vladimir Tatlin's Monument to the Third International, perching on one of die cantilevered terraces of the Hayward Gallery, informed the commuters on Waterloo Bridge of the Arts Council's exhibition Art in Revolution. This show filled two floors of the gallery with a rich and theatrically displayed survey of post-revolutionary Russian art, film, theatre design, crafts and architecture. Exhibits of original works were loaned by die Soviet Ministry of Culture and a large number of institutions and private collectors, while models of significant architectural works or projects, including Tatlin's tower, were commissioned.
