BIM/VDC IS THE MOST EXCITING TREND FOR BUILDING OWNERS, FACILITY MANAGERS

Commercial building owners and facilities professionals say the use of building information modeling and virtual design and construction (BIM/VDC) is the industry's most exciting current trend, according to new survey by Mortenson Construction. About 60 members of the Construction Owners Association of America responded to the survey, including stakeholders in higher education, healthcare, and government. BIMNDC was identified as the top trend by 42% of the respondents, followed by "technology in general" (25%), integrated project delivery (IPD, 8%), and energy reduction (8%). Respondents believe BIMA/DC can yield big benefits-particularly the ability to identify design and construction issues early, improving the efficiency of the design and construction process. Respondents also believe increased use of BIM/ VDC will ultimately reduce project costs.
