Alan Krueger and Andreas Mueller present new evidence on job search activity, job finding, life satisfaction, mood, and reservation wages among unemployed workers. Notably, they exploit high-frequency longitudinal data to estimate how individual search time responds to unemployment spell duration (measured as weeks receiving unemployment benefits). Another noteworthy aspect of the Krueger-Mueller study is the setting: a period of high unemployment and historically low job-finding rates.
