Brussels Beer Challenge 2020: A beer competition in times like these

FROM NOVEMBER 1 TO 3, 2019, an expert jury consisting of 9 5 international beer experts met in Mons, Wallonia. In 15 different teams and over three days, they employed their senses to evaluate the level of quality of the submissions and handed out the coveted medals and awards. A total of 280 medals and special awards (Certifi- cate of Excellence) were distributed last year by the jury and, despite lower participation than in the previous year, German breweries brought home over five percent of the medals in 2019. This is the success story of a beer competition that has made a name for itself in the beer world over the years. What will the competition be like this year? In a year in which everything has been turned upside down, concepts have to be constantly drafted and reconsidered in order to take the current situation into account. In a conversation with organizer Luc De Raedemaeker we take a look into the near future, discuss the changes that have to be made to put on such an event under the new conditions, and show how German breweries can benefit from taking part in the BBC in times like these.
