Introduction to the Projects 2002 Funded in Division of Botany by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)

In the year of 2002, Division of Botany receives 449 proposals for General Program, which is up 160 projects over the previous year, accounting for 3.75% of 11963 proposals received by the Department of Life Sciences. Three hundred and fifty-two of 449 proposals are for Project of Free Application, representing 3.75% of the corresponding proposals received by the department, 42 proposals for Project for Young Scientists' Fund (2.30%), and 55 proposals for Project for Developing Regions (7.10%). The dramatic increase in the number of proposals for General Program can be attributed to the following reasons: 1) a special program is initiated by Department of Life Sciences for the purpose of maintaining and supporting a team of researchers on classical plant taxonomy and over one hundred proposals are received for this program; 2) a raised funding rate resulting from the decreased number of proposals in 2001 switches a great proportion of intersecting projects to Division of Botany. In addition, the Division receives 17 proposals for the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 7 proposals for Collaborating Research Fund for Young Scholars from Abroad, 9 proposals for 3 Key Programs , 2 proposals for Publication Fund of Academic Literature in National Science and Technology, and 6 proposals for Publication of Project Monographs of Excellent Research Achievements supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).
