Introduction

Lipidomics can be denned as "the full characterization of: (ⅰ) lipid molecules in living organisms, their supramolecular organization and biological properties, but also (ⅱ) the proteins involved in lipid metabolism, and (ⅲ) the characterization of lipid-mediated gene activation". Although it is not as developed as proteomics and genomics, lipidomics is today promoted worldwide by several incitative research projects and dedicated meetings covering various aspects of lipid bio-science. This is also the aim of this special issue of Biochimie.
