Iraq plans major national fleet expansion

Iraq's Transport Ministry is planning to invite foreign firms to submit bids for a fleet of ten cargo vessels to bolster its limited fleet, according to Reuters. An approximate price of US$110 million is expected for four bulkers, a passenger vessel, a pair of containerships and three other vessels, to be completed in about two years. Bids will be accepted from early March. With violence in the country abating, and plans to expand its oil output, Iraq is laying plans to rebuild port infrastructure and expand its shipping fleet.
