'Stanford Buzzard' Stanford Marine's 'pirate proof' PSV headed for Tanzania

Stanford Marine recently secured a charter contract for its next-generation deep-water platform supply vessel (PSV) 'Stanford Buzzard' from BG Group, for its operations off Tanzania. 'Stanford Buzzard' was built by Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding of China to the MMC 887 design from MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting of Poland. The DP2-equipped vessel is ideal for deep-water offshore supply, with 3,500 tonnes of cargo capacity and 1000 square metres of free deck space. Given her operational area off Africa's east coast, 'Stanford Buzzard' has been equipped with a secure citadel, blast-proof windows, RPG netting, and armour bulletproofing with ceramic ball material. The citadel is capable of securely accommodating all personnel and allowing them to maintain control of the vessel and communications from a hardened location that pirates are not able to breach.
