EFFECTIVELY SCREENING PEOPLE: PAT DOWN SEARCHES, WANDS, ARCHWAYS AND PORTALS

While more advanced passenger screening methods can improve security efficiency, they are often costly and can be less operationally efficient than more traditional solutions, as well as requiring more space in an already space-constrained environment. Such new screening methods and technologies may also create a screening process which can result in a negative airport experience for the passenger (i.e. increased wait time or a more invasive screening process). Therefore a more comprehensive analytical framework is necessary to evaluate changes to existing passenger screening systems, or the deployment of new screening systems (comprised of new technology or processes or both), as the few previous improvement attempts have led to a sub-optimal passenger screening process.
