Since the record shows going around can lead to all kinds of mayhem in a retractable, should you retract it for the go-around or leave it out? As always, it depends. If it's a high-and-hot day, and climb performance will suffer, go ahead and retract it. Just remember your GUMP check. On the other hand, leaving it down will easily prevent most opportunities for getting into a conflict with slower traffic in the pattern. And, of course, leaving it down also will prevent that too-short landing, with accompanying scraping sounds.
