USAF Retires MC-130E

A ceremony was held at Duke Field, Florida, on April 25 to mark the official retirement of the last five MC-130E Combat Talon Is remaining in service with the US Air Force -all operated by the 919th Special Operations Wing's (SOW's) 711th Special Operations Squadron (SOS), 'Spectre'. The date for the event was chosen because it commemorates the 33rd anniversary of Operation Eagle Claw, the abortive mission to the Desert One airstrip in Iran to free 52 US hostages held in the US Embassy in Tehran on April 25,1980. Several of the MC-130Es at Duke Field took part in the operation.
