Manston Welcomes KLM

The UK county of Kent is now connected to the world thanks to new twice-daily Fokker 70 flights from Manston Airport to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands. The launch of the KLM flights on April 2 enables passengers to reach 190 worldwide destinations and the arrival of the inaugural flight attracted representatives of the local travel trade, chambers of commerce, Visit Kent, Visit Britain, Thanet District Council and Kent County Council. Charles Buchanan, CEO of Manston Airport, said: 'The start of the KLM service marks the next exciting chapter in the airport's history. This is a huge boost for East Kent and, with the right support; it will be a catalyst for the local economy. The new service has already meant we have employed an additional 42 members of staff and are now using even more local contractors.
