British Midland at Leeds Bradford

Reader John Marshall has been in touch concerning my article in the magazine on British Midland Vickers Viscounts and my oversight in not mentioning the important part played by Leeds Bradford Airport in both the type and the airline's history. Indeed, mention of Leeds Bradford and British Midland go hand-in-hand. The airline started flights to the Yorkshire airport in the mid-'60s with a service to both Glasgow and Edinburgh with Viscounts, but the routes were terminated towards the end of the decade. The aircraft instead went direct from East Midland airport to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
