Aviation leasing and financing company GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) launched its 737-800 passenger-to-freighter conversion programme. The company plans to convert up to 20 of its Boeing 737-800 passenger aircraft to freighters, with AEI Aeronautical Engineers performing the work at its facilities in the US and China. The first conversion, which will be known as the 737-800SF, is scheduled to start in 2016, with FAA supplemental type certification targeted for 2017.
