Volunteers at the Newark Air Museum have been busy repainting Avro Shackleton MR.3 WR977 The epic project started in April 2016, but low temperatures and adverse weather conditions slowed down work on the huge former maritime patrol aircraft over the winter. The project got going again in April 2017 and was largely completed in time for the Shackleton & Hastings 40th Anniversary Weekend in mid-May. The aircraft is now fully repainted. This Shackleton served with various RAF squadrons between September 1957 and November 1971. This service included Beira Patrols out of Madagascar in early 1967, during the Rhodesia Crisis and later that same year WR977 was one of the pair of Shackletons that greeted Francis Chichester at the end of his round-the-world yacht voyage.
