Markets in transition

Every year at the AV Convention, AV presents a series of market maps looking at the a-v industry in the UK. Here, we summarise those findings and look at the threats and opportunities coming up. Extrapolating from a mix of formal research done into areas like videoconferencing and displays, AVs own sector surveys and anecdotal evidence, it looks as though the overall a-v market in the UK grew only by a percentage point or two in 2005. The headline figure is that the overall market - including all forms of production revenues as well as presentation hardware sales - grew from £2.61bn to £2.76bn. That's respectable, but hardly sensational. In fact, it's misleading, because there was a huge variation in the growth (or otherwise) of different sectors. In effect, poor performances from some of the production businesses dragged down the overall growth calculation.
