A musician with a talent for engineering

Shure Inc's CEO was torn between pursuing music or engineering as a potential career. "Music was a big passion. I was at a little bit of a crossroads deciding my degree when I was 18 years old. Should I pursue music, or should I get into more of a technical field," recalls Christine Schyvinck. Like so many musicians, Schyvinck also proved to be adept at maths and ended up at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. "With a lot of advice and guidance, quite a bit from my father actually, I decided that music could be a good hobby, and I should probably get a more technical degree behind me. Actually, I'd won a scholarship to pursue mechanical engineering. I thought I was going to become a pilot, and then translate that into being an astronaut."
