Mitsubishi Motors is a beast with two heads and a broken heart. One head is Takashi Sonabe, a lifelong Mitsubishi employee who is now chief executive officer of his company. The other is Rolf Eckrodt, a former DaimlerChrysler executive, who in January became the chief operating officer. Sonabe represents Mitsubishi group stockholders, which all together control 37.5 per cent of the shares. Eckrodt represents DaimlerChrysler, with 37.3 percent of the shares.rnSonabe and the rest of Mitsubishi's Japanese employees have lived a tumultuous life these past two decades: international expansion, partnership with Chrysler, a sports-utility boom, divorce from Chrysler, sexual harassment in America, declining profitability, a recall scandal, collapsing car sales, marriage and divorce with Volvo and surrender to DaimlerChrysler.
