You joined Mini on the 8 January. What where you doing before? My first working day was the Detroit Motor Show and not in Munich. I studied at the Royal College of Art in London in 1980, then I went to Opel, VW, Seat, Mitsubishi and now Mini. I was chief designer at Seat in Barcelona for one year. There we built up the brand in 1995 and 1996 and laid the ground for all the success Seat has now. I worked with Mitsubishi Europe, again as chief designer, for nearly three years. There I worked in the European design studio, where we did all the work for the cars produced in Europe. I did not design: my job was to make advanced proposals for the Japanese headquarters. I was only there for three years and a car normally takes four years to go from concept to production.
